Tragedy Strikes as Over 30 Feared Drowned in Kebbi State Boat Mishap
In a devastating incident in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, more than 30 individuals are feared drowned after a boat carrying over 50 passengers capsized on Monday. Yauri LGA Chairman, Bala Yauri, confirmed this heartbreaking news, expressing the deep sorrow felt by the local community.
Local divers have been mobilized to locate and recover the bodies of the passengers who tragically lost their lives in the river. According to Yauri, the accident involved mostly traders from Niger State or Kebbi State, transporting goods for sale before the unfortunate event.
Witness Alhaji Sani Yauri revealed that the accident was caused by a heavy wind that led to the boat driver losing control, resulting in the immediate capsizing of the vessel.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Nigerian Police Force in the state, DSP Nafiu Abubakar, were unsuccessful at the time of this report, as he did not respond to calls or text messages.
