Kidnappers of eight NYSC corps demand N100M
Contrary to recent reports suggesting that three of the eight victims had been released, family members have clarified that this information is false. They remain deeply worried about the fate of their loved ones. The kidnappers initially demanded N13 million as ransom, but later raised it to N200 million after the families paid the initial amount.
A widow and mother of one of the victims expressed her ongoing anguish, emphasizing her determination to continue crying until her child is safely returned. She also voiced her lack of faith in the government's ability to resolve the situation and appealed to God for help, especially considering the substantial ransom demanded.
The grieving mother, who has gone on a hunger strike in solidarity with her child, highlighted the difficulty of eating when her child is not. She explained that the parents had already sold their possessions to raise the initial ransom amount and now find themselves without resources. She pleaded for assistance.
Regarding recent claims of some victims escaping, a brother of one of the victims dismissed these reports as fake news. He clarified that none of the kidnapped individuals had been freed, and the kidnappers had made contact with the parents recently, causing great concern.
Another family member of a victim expressed frustration with the Akwa Ibom State Government, questioning whether government officials would negotiate if their own family members were kidnapped. They criticized the lack of government support and called on Zamfara State Government to assist in rescuing the abducted children. The incident highlighted the security challenges in Nigeria.
The same family member criticized the Akwa Ibom State Government for not reaching out to the parents of the kidnapped children. They described the parents' struggle to raise the initial ransom amount and the absence of official government assistance. They also referenced the issue of corrupt practices related to NYSC postings.
