In 1936, Indiana Jones, a professor of archaeology and a part-time adventurer, is approached by U.S. Army Intelligence to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis do. The Nazis believe that discovering the Ark's biblical powers will grant them invincibility in their quest for world domination.

Indy's journey takes him from the jungles of South America to the streets of Nepal and ultimately to Egypt. Along the way, he is joined by Marion Ravenwood, his feisty former flame and the daughter of an archaeologist who had been searching for the Ark.

Their pursuit is fraught with danger as they face off against Nazi agents, including the sinister Dr. René Belloq and the ruthless Colonel Dietrich. Indy and Marion narrowly escape numerous traps and deadly encounters as they decipher cryptic clues leading them to the Ark's resting place.

Finally, Indy discovers the location of the Ark hidden within the Well of Souls in Tanis, Egypt. However, he is captured by the Nazis, and Marion is also captured separately. The Nazis force Indy to locate the Ark for them. With the fate of the world at stake, Indy and Marion must find a way to stop the Nazis and save the Ark.

As the Nazis open the Ark atop a remote island, they hope to harness its power. However, when they open it, they are met with a supernatural force of destruction that obliterates them in a terrifying display of divine retribution.

Indy and Marion manage to close their eyes in time to avoid the Ark's wrath and are spared. The U.S. government then takes possession of the Ark, with plans to study and secure it, away from the wrong hands.
