Chicago State University has finally released Tinubu's certificate.
Chicago State University has now released President Bola Tinubu's academic records to his political adversary, Atiku Abubakar, in accordance with a United States court order.
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate representing the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria's election on February 25th, had requested these documents to substantiate his claims of a forged CSU certificate attributed to Mr. Tinubu. Notably, the Nigerian presidential election court dismissed this allegation in the lawsuit Atiku filed to challenge Mr. Tinubu's election victory.
Despite the court's ruling in Nigeria, Atiku persisted with his case in the United States, aiming to secure official documents to support his claim and potentially employ them in his appeal at Nigeria's Supreme Court. The US court gave an order on Saturday, compelling the university to release the records within 48 hours.
On Monday, the university delivered a collection of documents related to Mr. Tinubu's educational history at the institution, including certificates with redacted names issued to other individuals around the time the Nigerian president completed his studies in 1979.
Among these documents were Mr. Tinubu's admission records and a letter dated June 27, 2022, affirming his attendance at the university from August 1977 to June 1979, with a major in accounting. The letter also stated that Mr. Tinubu was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with Honors on June 22, 1979.
